Europe Sees Growth in Bundled Services and Telecom Competition07/05/2007
Bundled communications services are becoming increasingly popular in Europe, with 20% of the continent’s consumers now subscribing to some kind of bundled package, according to a recent report by the European Commission. Traditional fixed-line telephones, however, are being increasingly neglected throughout the European Union, with 22% of households now using mobile phones only. That number is up four percentage points from last year. VoIP is also gaining ground, as cable companies and alternative communications providers take customers from their fixed-line rivals. 17% of internet-connected European households now make phone calls over the web, according to the EC report. In the UK, incumbent telecom provider, BT has managed to hold a greater market share than many of its continental counterparts. Only 13% of British households have dumped their landline phones, while just 11% of web-connected homes make use of internet voice services. Related News
