Qwest Reports Higher Profits, Weaker Revenue
02/08/2007
Qwest Communications has reported a surge in second-quarter profits, as sharply reduced operating costs offset flat overall revenue. Net income more than doubled to $246 million, or $0.13, compared to just $117 million in the same three-month period a year earlier. This result failed to live up to the $0.15 predicted by analysts, however, as revenue slipped by about $10 million to $3.46 billion. A 7% decline in fixed-line telephone subscribers was largely responsible for the sluggish quarterly revenue. Qwest shares dropped $0.13, or 1.52% yesterday, to close at $8.40 on the New York Stock Exchange.
