AT&T Extends Free Directory Assistance Service to Texas10/10/2007
America’s biggest telecom carrier, AT&T Inc., has extended the availability of its free directory assistance service to the state of Texas, after launching the ad-supported business lookup line in California and eight southeastern states earlier this year. The 1-800-YellowPages service allows callers to gain free access to local business listings anywhere in the U.S., if they dial from a landline or cellular phone in one of the ten states where it is available. Callers can request either a specific business listing, or name a category of businesses to hear multiple listings within a given city or town. AT&T generates revenue by playing short audio advertisements that are relevant to the search being conducted. “For area businesses, we’re helping them reach potential customers who are in need of a service and are ready to make a purchasing decision,” explained the telecom giant’s senior vice president of Customer Information Services, David S. Huntley. AT&T is already the world’s leading publisher of print Yellow Pages, and draws its local business listings from a database of more than 1,250 telephone directories. Related News
