CRTC to Establish Do-Not-Call Registry in Canada

11/08/2008

Beginning on September 30, Canadians will be able to add their names to a do-not-call list similar to the one available in the United States, according to a recent statement by the CRTC.

Canadians who add their name to the registry will be able to avoid pesky calls from telemarketers, subject to a 31-day grace period, as companies update their telephone lists.

Calls from charities, political parties, polling organizations, newspapers seeking subscriptions, and companies with which customers have existing business relationships, will be exempt from the do-not-call legislation.
