Prince Edward Island Reaches Rural Broadband Deal with Aliant

14/11/2008

Right on the heels of updating the BlackBerry Curve, Research In Motion has announced the U.S. availability date for its much anticipated BlackBerry Storm device.

The touchscreen BlackBerry, which features mobile broadband access, as well as the ability to download and store music, will be available through Verizon Wireless beginning on November 21. It is being seen as the most credible challenger to the Apple iPhone, which recently became America’s most popular handset, and outsold the entire BlackBerry line of devices (combined) in the third quarter of this year.

“This is the first time a mainstream carrier, and I mean Verizon, will make a BlackBerry its main product for the Christmas selling season,” commented Toronto-based Paradigm Capital analyst, Barry Richards. “It’s an enormous change from the traditional BlackBerry that we`ve come to know and love, and it does represent quite a big opportunity.”

Richards is an RIM shareholder, and advises clients to buy the stock.

The BlackBerry Storm will cost $199, with a two-year Verizon Wireless service agreement. This is the same price as an Apple iPhone with service from AT&T.
