TiVo and Domino’s Enable Pizza Delivery Orders via Home TV

17/11/2008

The average global cost of residential high-speed internet services has decreased 20% this year alone, according to new analysis by Point Topic, a British research firm.

The biggest price drop this year has been for DSL services, which dropped from an average monthly cost of $67 in the first quarter to $53 in the third.

The U.S. market has been relatively untouched by the trend, with American consumers still paying about $16 per megabit/second of downstream bandwidth. This is significantly less expensive than broadband services in the Middle East and Africa, where customers pay an average of $46 per megabit/second, but much more costly than Asia-Pacific, where the average DSL line goes for just $3.80 per megabit/second.

In Europe, the cost of cable broadband has declined significantly in recent months, with cable modem services now costing less on the Continent than in the U.S.
