Rogers Wireless Brings HP iPAQ 910 to Canadian Smartphone Users06/02/2009
Mobile messaging revenues will continue to increase throughout 2009, according to Acision, the world’s leading processor of text messages. A staggering 55 billion text messages were sent worldwide on New Year’s Eve alone, up 30% from last year, despite the weaker global economy. This demonstrates the strong position of SMS messaging, which remains the preferred method of mobile data communication. Acision’s vice president of product marketing, Steven van Zanen, predicts that “messaging will increasingly be a key way to interact with personal blogs and online services such as Facebook, Twitter, and MySpace.” Such an approach is already proving successful in the United States and will likely spread to other markets in the coming years, he explains. Van Zanen also expects SMS usage to increase “in emerging markets, such as Africa and parts of Asia, where fixed-line infrastructure is limited.” These regions will likely contribute significantly to text messaging revenues in the years to come.
