CTV Launches Web-Based HDTV Player

19/03/2009

Aspiring cell phone carrier, Globalive Wireless, is planning to make use of its recently-acquired spectrum licenses by launching networks in Toronto and Vancouver by the end of 2009.

Globalive, which initially made a name for itself selling low-cost long distance phone services, plans to pursue a two-pronged strategy in the Canadian cell phone market, selling both discount and premium services.

“Really, we’re going to be split into two brands,” said Globalive CEO, Anthony Lacavera, explaining that his company would compete with leading Canadian carriers, Rogers, Bell, and Telus, as well as their discount subsidiaries (Fido, Solo, and Koodo, respectively).

Globalive expects to hire more than 1,000 employees over the next 12 months, as it gets services off the ground in Vancouver and Toronto. In 2010, the company will extend its network to other cities and provinces, with the ultimate goal of establishing a nationwide presence.
