North American IPTV Market Grows 113%

24/03/2009

Australia’s rapid uptake of 3G mobile broadband technology has provided a significant boost to the country’s economic productivity, according to Concept Economics researcher, Dr. Paul Paterson.

If Australia can maintain its current level of mobile broadband growth, its economy will benefit from additional productivity of A$7.4 billion (US$ 4.7 billion) annually, Paterson predicts. That translates into an average of A$250 (US$158) for each Australian household.

“Since Telstra switched on its Next G network in 2005, Australians have really embraced wireless broadband. This rapid take-up has put our economy on a better footing to deal with the economic downturn,” Paterson explained. “The study found there are further gains to come with 58% of small and medium businesses already using 3G services planning to expand their use of mobile broadband this year.”

Wireless broadband has proven invaluable for businesses seeking to generate new business and use employee time more efficiently. “Video conferencing, mobile payments, inventory management, large information data transfers and vehicle tracking are among the most popular applications small businesses are expected to embrace in 2009,” Paterson said.
