Cogeco Begins Offering 50-Mbps Cable Broadband in Ontario

13/07/2009

Canada’s biggest cell phone operator, Rogers Wireless, has launched what will likely be the first in a new class of products: web-ready netbooks with built-in 3.5G (HSPA) mobile broadband chips.

The HP Mini 110, manufactured by Hewlett-Packard, offers true broadband speeds of up to 7.2-Mbps, in markets where Rogers’ HSPA network is available. The growing list of HSPA markets includes 25 Canadian cities ranging from Victoria to Halifax, and covers more than 75% of the country’s population.

“Just as voice communications have long expanded beyond finding a pay phone or waiting until you get home to make a call, as the Internet evolves from a source of information to an enabler of communication, mobile Internet ready netbooks are the perfect companion to our richly connected lives,” said Rogers’ vice president of business product management, Mansell Nelson. “Rogers is proud to lead this innovative new product category and now offer our customers an even wider selection of wireless products to meet their mobile needs.”

The HP Mini 110 is now available at Future Shop and BestBuy outlets across Canada, at a cost of $299.99 with a two-year Rogers Wireless contract.
