Wi-Fi-enabled televisions will be widely available by the end of this year, and should be selling briskly by 2011, according to a new report by ABI Research.
“North America, Western Europe, and select Asian countries are seen as the next growth markets, and the 2009 holiday season and 2010 will be the watershed periods when vendors will see whether networked TV should trickle down to mainstream models and really take off there,” predicted ABI analyst, Michael Inouye, in a press release earlier this week.
Inouye expects manufacturers to begin dedicating marketing resources to Wi-Fi TV products in time for the 2009 Christmas shopping season. Awareness of home entertainment networking is then expected to rise throughout 2010, setting the stage for 20 million Wi-Fi TV shipments in 2011.
