Google Voice to be Released as Web-Based iPhone App

07/08/2009

Vancouver-based telecom giant, Telus Corp., reported a 9% drop in second-quarter earnings today, citing the slow economy, as well as an ongoing decline in landline voice revenues.

The company made $244 million on sales of $2.377 billion, down from $268 million on sales of $2.399 billion in the second quarter of 2008.

“The second-quarter results continue to reflect the impacts of the recession on our western and nationally based businesses,” commented Telus CEO, Darren Entwistle. “In light of moderating revenues, our solid progress on operational efficiency initiatives has helped mitigate the effect of current economic conditions and better position the organization for accelerated performance when the economy recovers.”

Telus has cut a total of 1,500 full-time positions so far this year in an effort to remain efficient.
