MTS and Rogers Get Regulatory Approval for Shared 3G Wireless Network14/09/2009
Leading cell phone provider, Rogers Wireless, has launched an upgraded version of its 3G mobile broadband network in five Canadian cities. The new ‘HSPA+’ network allows for download speeds of up to 21.6-Mbps, which compares to 7.2-Mbps on Rogers’ existing HSPA service. This gives Rogers Wireless the fastest mobile broadband network in North America, beating out Sprint’s 4G service, which peaks at 10-Mbps. Rogers customers in Vancouver, Calgary, Toronto, Ottawa, and Montreal will be able to access the HSPA+ network beginning September 28, when the company begins selling an upgraded version of its Mobile Internet Rocket Stick modem. The new modem, which plugs into the USB port of any recent Mac or Windows laptop, will cost $79.99 with a qualifying Rogers contract. Related News
