Verizon Wireless Deal Fuels Surge in Bridgewater Stock
15/09/2009
Manitoba’s incumbent telecom carrier, MTS, announced yesterday that it had obtained regulatory approval for a plan to build a shared mobile broadband network with larger rival, Rogers Wireless. MTS and Rogers will share the cost of the new network, which will offer UMTS/HSPA mobile data service to cell phone users in Manitoba. Under the terms of the deal, Rogers will also sign a wholesaling agreement with MTS subsidiary, Allstream, giving it the opportunity to offer wireless services in other provinces besides Manitoba. MTS expects to spend some $70 million to build the new UMTS/HSPA network, which it expects to complete by early 2011.
