Globalive to Open Retail Outlets in Toronto and Calgary This Week

09/12/2009

A B.C. Supreme Court judge will hear Rogers Communications’ false advertising case against rival cell phone carrier, Bell Mobility, tomorrow.

Rogers alleges that Bell is misleading consumers by promoting its new 3G wireless network as the largest in Canada, since the network itself is shared with Telus Mobility. Rogers also objects to Bell’s claims that its network is the “best” and “most powerful” in Canada, arguing that these statements are not quantifiable.

Rogers is being forced to pull a number of its own ads due to a lawsuit filed by Telus last month. The judge in that case ruled that Rogers could no longer describe its 3G network as Canada’s “most reliable,” since Bell and Telus had launched a comparable service using the same technology.
