As the Ottawa area runs low on available phone numbers, the Canadian Radio-television Telecommunications Commission has created a new area code for eastern Ontario. Ottawa-area residents who sign up for a new landline or cell phone could soon receive a number beginning with ‘343,’ rather than the traditional ‘613′ area code. The region affected by the change includes the cities of Ottawa, Kingston, Belleville, Brockville, Cornwall, and Bancroft.
