Upstart cell phone carrier, Wind Mobile, has announced plans to bring its service to Vancouver later this week. Beginning on Thursday (June 3), Vancouver will become the fifth Canadian city where Wind is available, following Toronto, Edmonton, Calgary, and Ottawa. The company’s ‘Chat,’ ‘Always Talk,’ and ‘Always Shout’ plans are priced at $15, $35, and $45, respectively, and customers that sign up by June 30 will receive 50% off their wireless bill for the first six months. Wind is also promising that there will be no activation, system access, or 911 fees. Perhaps the only downside to Wind’s competitively-priced offering is the lack of subsidized handsets. Users that want a BlackBerry Bold 9700 smartphone will have to shell out $450 to buy the device outright, rather than getting a discount in exchange for signing a contract. Customers that are content with a more basic Huawei 1250 handset, however, can get away with spending just $70 on a phone. Related News
