Rogers Imposes Stricter Internet Bandwidth Caps21/07/2010
Greater Toronto is expected to run out of phone numbers and may need a new area code by July 2015, according to the Canadian Numbering Administration. Toronto already has two area codes (416 and 647) but “it’s very likely there will be a third area code” in the coming years, according to Canadian Radio-television and Telecommunications Commission spokesman, Denis Carmel. “We’re planning ahead to make sure there are no surprises,” Carmel said. Suburbs surrounding Toronto — the so called 905 belt — will be the first region in Canada to get a third area code, with the ‘365′ prefix scheduled to become active in March 2013. Numerous regions throughout North America have been running out of area codes in recent years, due to rapid population growth as well as a surging wireless market. The entire continent is expected to run out of phone numbers by about 2039, at which time 12-digit dialing will likely need to be adopted. Related News
