CRTC Request Public Input on Definition of “Basic” Phone Service
23/07/2010
Just days after U.S.-based online video provider, Netflix, announced plans to operate in Canada, Rogers Communications is imposing stricter bandwidth caps on its cable broadband services. As of July 21, customers who sign up for Rogers’ “Lite” broadband service will be limited to downloading 15GB of data per month, while “Extreme” subscribers will be subject to a monthly maximum of 80GB. “Lite” and “Extreme” customers who signed up before July 21 will still be able to download a monthly maximum of 25GB and 95GB, respectively. Netflix allows customers to rent an unlimited number of online movies for $9.99/month. The bandwidth-heavy application uses an average of 3GB of data for each two-hour movie downloaded.
