“Supply Constraints” Force Bell Mobility to Pull HTC Legend

19/08/2010

Canadian wireless operator, Telus Mobility, has announced plans to discourage customers from receiving paper bills in an effort to cut costs and safeguard the environment.

Beginning September 21, the company will charge customers $2 for each paper bill they receive.

“Paper bills are more expensive. You’ve got to produce them, print them, and mail them. The two-dollar charge represents the cost to us to produce a paper bill,” explained Telus spokesman, Shawn Hall, in an interview.

For each customer that opts to receive wireless bills by email, Telus will donate $2 to the Nature Conservancy of Canada. Users who sign up for the e-billing option will also be entered into a weekly draw to win $1,000 and have an additional $1,000 donated to the Nature Conservancy in their name.

Telus cannot extend the program to landline telephones at this time, due to strict CRTC regulations which govern basic telephone service.
