SaskTel Unveils Improved IPTV Platform

01/09/2010

Not to be discouraged by the BlackBerry Torch’s lackluster performance in the United States, Canada’s largest cell phone carrier, Rogers Wireless, has announced plans to offer the device in Canada beginning on September 24, at a cost of $199.99 on a three-year contract.

This pricing is comparable to that of American wireless giant, AT&T, which offers the Torch for US$199.99 on a shorter two-year service agreement.

“Rogers customers are excited about the new BlackBerry Torch coming to Canada,” commented Rogers executive vice president and Chief Marketing Officer, John Boynton. “As the first carrier in the world to launch the BlackBerry nearly a decade ago, Rogers understands the needs of the BlackBerry customer.”

Shortly after Rogers’ announcement, Canada’s other two major carriers, Bell and Telus, announced similar intentions of launching the Torch on September 24. Bell will match Rogers’ price tag of $199.99, while Telus said merely that its pricing will be “competitive” with that of its larger rival.
