Rogers Buying Fiber-Optic Carrier, Atria Networks

02/10/2010

Canadian wireless startup, Mobilicity, has added a new BlackBerry smartphone, the Curve 3G, to its product lineup.

Technically known as the Curve 9300, the Curve 3G features a full QWERTY keyboard, optical trackpad, and dedicated media keys, as well as a 480 x 360 pixel display, built-in Wi-Fi, 2-megapixel digital camera, and of course, 3G mobile data capability.

Unlike established carriers such as Rogers and Telus, Mobilicity does not subsidize its devices by requiring customers to sign a service agreement. For those that want an inexpensive plan with month-to-month billing, however, the company’s phones are competitively priced. The Curve 3G sells for $299.99 with no contract, compared to $329.99 from Telus Mobility.

This gives Mobilicity customers the opportunity to own a BlackBerry smartphone without forking over $450 for the more advanced BlackBerry Bold 9700.
