3 Brings BlackBerry Torch 9800 to UK Market

07/10/2010

Canada’s two leading cell phone carriers, Rogers Wireless and Bell Mobility, both announced this week that they are testing fourth-generation (4G) wireless technology.

Rogers is working with telecom equipment giant, Ericsson, which is testing 4G technology at an Ottawa research location. Bell, meanwhile, has completed the technical testing phase and is conducting real-life trials in Montreal and Hamilton.

Rogers and Bell are both using Long Term Evolution (LTE) technology for their 4G networks, which could theoretically alow for wireless data speeds of 150-Mbps.

Despite soldiering ahead, the Canadian carriers are still somewhat behind their American counterparts. MetroPCS already offers 4G service in parts of Las Vegas, Nevada and Dallas, Texas, while leading U.S. carrier, Verizon Wireless, expects to introduce its first commercial 4G networks by the end of this year.
